Dental Consultation
Not sure what treatment you need? A dental consultation gives you the chance to have the problem assessed, understand your options and ask questions before deciding what to do next.
At Jaffar Dental, Dr Kevin takes the time to listen to your concerns, examine the area carefully and explain what he finds in clear, straightforward language.
Whether you have pain, a broken tooth, are considering treatment or simply want another opinion, a consultation can help you understand the next steps without committing to treatment on the day.
At Jaffar Dental in Waterford West, you can book a dental consultation to discuss a concern, understand your options and make a plan for treatment.
Free 5-Minute Consultation
If you are not sure what treatment you need or simply want to discuss a dental concern first, we offer a free 5-minute, no-obligation consultation.
Dr Kevin can take a quick look, listen to what is concerning you and help you understand what the next step may be.
This short consultation is designed to help you discuss the issue and make a plan. If your concern requires a more detailed assessment, X-rays or more time, we can arrange a longer appointment.
What Happens at a Dental Consultation?
Your consultation is focused on the concern that brought you in.
Depending on the situation, Dr Kevin may:
* discuss your symptoms and dental history
* examine the teeth, gums and surrounding areas
* assess existing fillings, crowns or other dental work
* check your bite where relevant
* take X-rays if they are needed
* explain what may be causing the problem
* discuss suitable treatment options
* provide a treatment plan and expected costs where treatment is recommended
You will have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding how you would like to proceed.
What Can I Book a Consultation For?
A consultation may be helpful if you are concerned about:
* tooth pain or sensitivity
* a broken or cracked tooth
* a loose tooth
* swelling or infection
* bleeding or receding gums
* missing teeth
* an old filling or crown
* dentures
* root canal treatment
* extractions
* crowns or bridges
* cosmetic concerns
* treatment recommended elsewhere
* any dental issue you are unsure about
You do not need to know exactly what treatment you need before booking.
Do I Have to Have Treatment on the Day?
No.
A consultation can simply be used to assess the problem and discuss your options.
If treatment is needed, Dr Kevin will explain what is recommended and, where appropriate, provide a treatment plan so you can consider the options before proceeding.
In some situations, treatment may be possible at the same appointment if appropriate and enough time has been booked.
Will I Need X-Rays?
Not always.
X-rays are only recommended when they are clinically useful for understanding the problem or planning treatment.
If X-rays are required, Dr Kevin will explain why they are needed before they are taken.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know what treatment I need before booking?
No. If you have a dental concern but are unsure what treatment is required, a consultation is a good place to start.
Dr Kevin can assess the problem and explain the options available.
Can I book a consultation for a second opinion?
Yes. If you have been given a treatment recommendation elsewhere and would like another opinion, you are welcome to book a consultation.
Bring along any relevant X-rays or treatment information if you have them.
Can treatment be done at the same appointment?
Sometimes.
It depends on what treatment is required, whether enough time has been booked and whether Dr Kevin feels it is appropriate to proceed that day.
What if my concern needs more than five minutes?
The free consultation is intended as a brief opportunity to discuss the issue, have Dr Kevin take a quick look and help determine the next step.
If your concern requires a more detailed examination, X-rays or more time, we can arrange a longer appointment so it can be assessed properly.
How much does a dental consultation cost?
The cost depends on the type of consultation and whether additional assessment, such as X-rays, is required.
If you are unsure where to start, you can book our free 5-minute consultation to briefly discuss the issue and make a plan.
If a longer appointment is required, we will explain the expected cost before it is booked or before any additional treatment is carried out.
Eligible private health insurance claims can be processed through HICAPS, and Humm payment options may also be available for eligible patients.
