What Types of Dentures Are Available?
Full dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw or both.
Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth while keeping your remaining natural teeth. Depending on your circumstances, these may be made using acrylic or a metal framework.
Immediate dentures may sometimes be placed soon after teeth are removed so you do not have to be without teeth during the initial healing period. Because the gums and bone change as they heal, adjustments or replacement may eventually be required.

What Is Involved in Getting Dentures?
Making a denture usually requires several stages. The exact process will depend on the type of denture and your individual mouth.
Your appointments may include an examination and treatment planning, impressions or measurements of your mouth, recording how your teeth and jaws meet, selecting tooth shape and colour where appropriate, trial fittings and finally fitting your completed denture.

How Long Does It Take?
Dentures are generally made over several appointments rather than in one visit.
The total time frame varies depending on the type of denture, whether teeth need to be removed first, how your mouth heals and whether additional adjustments are required.

What Should I Expect With New Dentures?
New dentures can take some time to get used to.
At first, they may feel larger or different in your mouth and you may notice temporary changes to your speech or the way you chew. Starting with softer foods and gradually returning to your normal diet can make the adjustment period easier.
Small areas of pressure or rubbing can also occur while your mouth adapts.

How Long Will My Dentures Last?
Dentures are designed to provide years of use, but they will not necessarily fit exactly the same way forever.

Regular dental reviews allow us to check the fit, your gums and any remaining natural teeth. Over time, a denture may need adjustment, relining or replacement.

Looking After Your Dentures

Dentures should be cleaned regularly to remove food, plaque and staining. Your gums, tongue and any remaining natural teeth also need ongoing care.

Will dentures look natural?

Will I be able to eat normally with dentures?
There is usually an adjustment period. Starting with softer foods and gradually introducing different textures can help as you become accustomed to chewing with your new denture.
What if my dentures hurt?

Yes. Regular reviews allow us to check your gums, soft tissues, denture fit and any natural teeth that remain.
