Will It Hurt?
Local anaesthetic can be used to numb the tooth if required, so treatment should be comfortable.
Some teeth may feel mildly sensitive for a short time afterwards, particularly to temperature or pressure, but this usually settles.

How much does a filling cost?
The cost of a filling depends on the size and location of the filling, how much of the tooth needs to be restored and how many teeth require treatment. After examining the tooth, Dr Kevin will explain what is needed and provide you with an expected cost before proceeding.
Eligible private health insurance claims can be processed through HICAPS, and Humm payment options may also be available for eligible patients .
How long do composite fillings last?
Composite fillings can last for many years, but their lifespan depends on the size of the filling, the tooth involved, your bite, oral hygiene and general wear over time.
Will the filling match my tooth?
Yes. Composite resin is available in different shades, and we select a colour designed to blend as closely as possible with your natural tooth.
Can I eat after a filling?
Once the composite filling has been hardened, it can be used normally. If local anaesthetic has been used, we recommend waiting until the numbness has worn off before eating so you do not accidentally bite your lip, cheek or tongue.
Why does my tooth feel sensitive after a filling?
Some temporary sensitivity can occur after treatment, particularly if the filling was deep. This often settles as the tooth adjusts. If sensitivity persists or becomes worse, contact us.
Can an old filling be replaced?
Yes. If an old filling is cracked, worn, leaking or no longer adequately supporting the tooth, Dr Kevin can assess whether replacement is appropriate. We recommend old silver fillings to be replaced to prevent small amounts of mercury being absorbed, also giving a brighter, whiter and more confident smile.
